For the first time in a while I’m not planning even a couple of days of meals. There will be no menu planning or meal planning for me this summer. You see, I’m not the one doing the cooking this week and it is bliss. It’s one of the things about being back in my parents house that I don’t mind. My mother cooks. We eat. Nice and simple.
In two days we’re all heading down to California for my little sisters wedding. It should be an interesting trip. I’ve never driven down before and I’m really looking forward to it. The Boy is a bit excited about seeing the giant redwood trees and stopping at the beach along the way. He has a yellow t-shirt that says California on it that he’s had since October and has been saving for this trip.
After my 32 hour day of travelling from the middle of England to my favourite bit of West Coast American last week, it’s taken me awhile to get over jet lag. The Boy managed to have pretty much no jet lag issues at all, other than crashing at about 6pm local time the first night. It’s taken me slightly longer to adjust, but last night I finally felt adjusted enough to attempt running here.
I’d forgotten how very, very flat it is here. I mean I know it’s flat, but there’s a distinct difference between knowing my run is going to be flat and running on flat ground. I was slower than normal. It was hot and there was way too much pollen about. I still managed just under 4 miles though, so it’s okay. I think once I properly adjust to the heat – I know it’s cooler in Oregon than other places, but it’s still warmer than England – I’ll be back to running as usual.
