So, I used to do a Friday Five post in which I recounted five brilliant (in my mind at least) things from the past week. However, since I haven’t done so in over a year, I want to change things up a bit. These are the my current favourite five things about living in England in no particular order.
1 – Hours of Daylight: I love the amount of daylight we see this time of year, 16 hours and 46 minutes of it today. I love being woken up by the sun streaming in through our elevated bedroom windows. It makes getting out of bed in the morning just a tiny bit easier.
2 – Academic Years: There are about three weeks left of school for Nicholas and about three weeks left of teaching for Rick, but I’m finished with university for the year. I get to recharge my batteries and catch up on all the things I’ve been neglecting.
3 – Food: I love that I can find locally grown fresh produce this time of year. I also love that we’ve got strawberries, spinach and courgettes (zucchini) ready in our garden.
4 – NHS: It’s been there when we’ve needed it. I honestly have no complaints with any of the care Rick, Nicholas and I have received since we moved over here.
5 – London 2012 Olympics: Definitely a little bit excited about this although it’s still a year away. We managed to get tickets to the Women’s Quarterfinal Football match that will be held not too far away from us in Coventry. Of course, now that I’m typing this I’ve realised that the tickets conflict with our tentative plans to spend next summer in the US. Hmmm, oh well, we’ve got over a year to figure it out!

The extra sunshine really has been so lovely!
And as a fellow expat, I agree, the NHS has been great! x
